Lose Twice, 1-10 and 7-10

REMINGTON – It was a rough day for the Moundridge softball team on Friday as they traveled to Remington and stumbled twice, closing both games of a doubleheader.
In game one, the Lady Wildcats could only muster one hit while striking out 15 times and committing seven errors on defense in their 1-10 loss..
Lela Winsor took the mound for Moundridge and threw 114 pitches while walking just three and striking out five. Winsor only gave up one earned run due to the defensive errors.
“As you can see, Lela (Winsor) only gave up one earned run,” noted head coach Lynn Eichelberger during his post-game reflections. “Our defense needs to improve to back up out pitchers. Lawler pitched very well for the Broncos, and our young team had a hard time catching up to her speed.”
Despite losing game two, 7-10, the Lady Wildcats at one point held a brief 7-2 advantage through the midway of the third inning before the Broncos took a 7-9 advantage after pouring across seven runs in the bottom of the fourth.
In game two, Moundridge got a pair of extra base hits as Winsor hammered out a double and Sam Strausz hammered out a triple. Struasz had two hits in the game while earning credit for 5 runs batted in. Macy Kaminkow also had a pair of hits while scoring three times.
Lela Winsor pitched for the Lady Wildcats.
Coach Eichelberger concluded his post- game reflections by adding, “(Lela) Winsor pitched well again in the second game and our defense was a lot better except for the one bad inning where we let one error turn into three and then we struggled to get the outs. The top of our lineup hit the ball well as they tallied all of our hits. We played an entire game with just sophomores and freshmen in game two and I was very pleased with how we competed against a good, veteran team like Remington.”
Now 1-3 for the season, the Lady Wildcats will be on the road Tuesday at Bennington before returning home on Friday to host Sedgwick.
