Hazelwood, Scott Named All-Tournament

STERLING – On Saturday, the Smoky Valley girls’ basketball team made school history as they won the Sterling Invitational for the first time with a 46-32 win over Southeast of Saline.

 

Along with the Lady Vikings winning the tournament, both Adrian Hazelwood and Tinley Scott were both named to the all-tournament team.

 




After the game was tied at 8-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Vikings outscored the Lady Trojans 15-5 in the second stanza to take a 20-13 advantage into the halftime break.

 

Smoky Valley outscored SE of Saline 23-19 in the final two quarters of play to earn the final 14-point victory.

 

Adrian Hazelwood led the Lady Vikings in scoring with 23 points and just missed a double double as she also grabbed eight rebounds. Katja Blanchat also just missed a double double as well when she finished the game scoring nine points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

 

Now one game over .500 at 5-4 for the season, the Lady Vikings have a busy week ahead as they travel to Hutchinson Trinity on Tuesday, before hosting Hillsboro on Thursday and Clay Center on Friday.
