MCPHERSON – After finishing the 2022 season fourth at the Class 4A state tournament, the McPherson High girls tennis team will return the entire team intact which gives them a solid shot to make another run at a state title, much like the one they earned in 2021.
Coach Tyler Brown returns for season 13 of being in charge of the Lady Bullpup legacy of success and leading them to a fourth-place finish in 2022. Ricardo Sanchez will once again assist him.
The Kuhn sisters, Riggs and Brodie return after finishing third at the state meet last season doubles to give Riggs one more opportunity to win a state championship in her senior season while Brodie is just sophomore.
Also returning with state experience are sisters Kyndall and Maryn Sandbo. Kyndall, a senior, finished twelfth at state in singles while Maryn was a state qualifier in her freshman season.
Other returning players that coach Brown noted as being key to their success in 2023 are junior Kennedy Tully plus Avery Eveland and Erin Olson, both just sophomores.
While there may be nine freshmen listed on the 2023 roster the coaches pinned McKenna Paul and Avery Unruh as two to keep an eye on.
In his reflections on the upcoming season, coach Brown said, “With not having any seniors last season, we basically have everyone back. Finishing fourth at state as a team we will look to improve on our team placement. We are looking for another amazing year with these girls and are extremely excited to see how much we will improve during the season by the time we head to the state tournament.”
