TEUTONS SCORE SEASON OPENING SHUTOUT WIN OVER HUTCH TRINITY

INMAN – Looking for a bounce back from last season, the Inman football team did just that to start the 2024 season as they scored a 15-0, shutout victory at home over visiting Hutchinson Trinity on Friday.

Teuton head coach Lance Sawyer noted, “I was impressed with the way our guy’s managed adversity throughout the game. Despite fumbling on the opening kickoff, fumbling on the first offensive play of the second half, our guys continued to battle.

After neither team found the end zone in the first quarter, the Teutons put a pair of points up in the second quarter when Bo O’Neill, just a freshman, ran down and tackled the Celtics ball carrier for a safety, giving Inman a slim 2-0 advantage at the halftime break.

With the third quarter going scoreless, Inman scored twice in the final minutes of play with a one-yard dive into the end zone by Sebastian Martinez followed up by a 30-yard scoring pass from senior Caleb  Bigler to sophomore Korbyn McClellan to give the Teutons the final 15-0 win.

The Teuton defensive and offensive line play was acknowledged by coach Sawyer explained in his final reflections of the season opening win, “We were able to hold them out of the end zone twice when they had first and goal at the three-yard line. The most impressive thing I saw was our offensive line when we started a drive at our own three-yard line and drove the ball 97 yard while taking 12 minutes off the clock.”

For the game, Inman outgained Trinity in offensive yards, 194-153 while running just nine more plays, 55-46. The Teutons grounded out 145 yards rushing on 39 carries.

Caleb Bigler directed the offense and finished with 49 yards passing and 74 yards running the ball.

Defensively, senior Sebastian Martinez recorded 10 tackles.

Next Friday, the Teutons go on the road to play Wichita Trinity Academy. The Knights are 0-1 after losing 14-49 Friday to Garden Plain.
