EXCITEMENT IS THE KEY FOR LADY BULLDOG VOLLEYBALL

By Staff

MCPHERSON – After a roller coaster season in 2022, the McPherson College volleyball team will open their 2023 season on Saturday (August 19) on the road in Seward, Nebraska playing Concordia University, the number four ranked team in the NAIA.

The Lady Bulldogs will have two top attackers returning in seniors Katelyn Moore and Bridget McHugh from a team that finished 15-15 in 2022.

Moore recorded 227 kills that tapped out at 2.18 kills per set while being named second-team All-KCAC (Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference) in 2022. She also played an important part in the team defense and led the team with 3.55 digs per set while scoring 18 total blocks.

(Bridget McHugh)

McHugh paced McPherson College with 2.34 kills per set and had the team-best 15 solo blocks.

“I believe our depth and talent is better than it’s ever been,” noted an optimistic Lady Bulldog head coach Cory Cahill. “More importantly, our culture is thriving as the support, excitement, and love that the team has this upcoming season is special.”

Also returning will be Cynarah Rodriquez, the team’s top setter from 2022. Rodriquez finished the season with 7.44 assists per set and had 76 kills.

Among the others returning for their senior season are Moriah Delgado and Becca Steffen. Delgado finished 2022 second on the team with 317 digs and Steffen added 290 assists to go with 102 digs.

According to the coaching staff, the 2023 class is loaded with freshmen and transfers who they say are great athletes.

Coach Cahill concluded his pre-season reflections by adding, “The incoming class has seamlessly fitted in which is helping us to enhance our culture and environment. I cannot wait to see what they will accomplish. Relationships are becoming stronger and stronger, the level of play in practice has never been so high. I have never believed in any group the way I believe in this group for 2023.”

The Lady Bulldogs have a loaded schedule that includes four matches with teams currently ranked in the NAIA preseason top-twenty-five, two of which are ranked in the top-ten.
