CANTON – The Central Kansas Youth Rodeo Association (CKYRA) closed out their 2024 season over the weekend with a pair of rodeo events on Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11 in which 24 McPherson County youth participated.
Among the contestants were 12 from Canton, four from Galva, three each from Moundridge and McPherson and one representing Lindsborg and Marquette.
This was the final session of four weekend events beginning with one in early May and two others during the first weeks of June.
On Saturday, five area youth earned first place wins, among them was Korbin Hogg of Canton in the 2-4 Division calf riding, Magnusson Cathey and Levi Henry, both of Canton as well, winning the 5-8 Division chute dogging and goats (boys), respectively. Also getting first place medals in the 9-12 Division were Emerson Hoppes in goat tying, and Keaton Ryan of Canton in tiedown roping.
McPherson County youth raised the bar in the CKYRA’s final rodeo of the season on Sunday as they found first-place success in 11 events, including three double winners.
In the 2-4 Division, Korbin Hogg once again found success by winning both the calf ride and goats (girls) and Kaylor Rouse of Galva took first in both the breakaway steer and goats (boys). Moundridge native Lennon Graber also scored first twice, winning the both pole bending and barrel racing in the 5-8 Division.

Among the single first-place winners on Sunday were Kinley Clinkscale of Canton for winning the breakaway sled in the 2-4 Division. In the 5-8 Division, Magnusson Cathey and Levi Henry both won again for chute dogging and goats (boys). Lakyn Allenbach of Moundridge won goat tying and Keaton Ryan took first in tiedown roping of the 9-12 Division as well.
An added highlight to the festivities on Sunday came when Allenbach got the win in the 9-12 Division of goat tying and was followed to the podium by Avery Weis of Marquette and Emerson Hoppes for finishing second and third.
