C/G LADY EAGLES ROLL PAST CUNNINGHAM
By Staff
CUNNINGHAM – Just beating the weather on Friday evening, the Canton/Galva girls basketball program went on the road to Cunningham and scored an 11-point, 40-29, win to kick off the back half of the 2024/25 schedule.
“We started the game really well for our first action after the break,” noted Lady Eagle head coach David Ediger. “We had good intensity and created a lot of turnovers of which we converted into scores.”
The Lady Eagles jumpted out to a seven-point, 12-5, lead by the end of the first quarter followed by a 15 point second quarter to take a commanding 27-12 advantage on the scoreboard into the halftime break.
Coach Ediger reflected on the offense, saying, “I thought we ran the floor well offensively. We also did a good job paying attention to the scouting report and got some steals and stops due because of that.”
Coming out of the break, Canton/Galva, cooled down a bit as Cunningham pulled back to within 13 at 35-22 at the end of the third quarter before the Lady Eagles settled in for the final 11-point victory.
Trinity Espinoza connected on four three-pointers in the game in leading the Lady Eagles in scoring with 24.
Concluding his reflections on the first game back from the holiday break, coach Ediger added, “We rebounded much better overall tonight, which is something we have worked on over the break. We still have room to improve, but we are heading in the right direction.”
Next up, barring any weather issues, will be a home game against Wakefield where the Lady Eagles will look to pull their season mark up to even from 3-4.
