CHRISLIP CARRIES EAGLES TO 54-0 WIN OVER CENTRE
By Staff
LOST SPRINGS – On Friday, the Canton/Galva football program began a new era with a new coach and a young, inexperienced roster, but the results were the same as the Eagles opened the 2024 season on the road at Lost Springs and shut out the Cougars 54-0.
“It was a good first win,” pointed out new Eagle head coach Ted Reghr. “Offensively, out line blocked exceptionally well and defensively we came out and played physical football with good energy.”
Replacing long-time and graduated Lane McMannis at quarterback was supposed to be a tough act to follow, but Eagle sophomore Jaxon Chrislip worked his magic as if he had done it before, running for 91 yards and three scores while connecting on 4-of-5 passing for another 92 yards and a touchdown.

Canton/Galva rang up 30 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter, with Chrislip scoring twice on runs of 32- and 7-yards. Chrislip then connected with senior Noah Collins for a 57-yard scoring pass play before junior Camden Kruse dashed in from 16 yards out at the end of the quarter.
Kruse added another 5-yard scoring run to begin the second quarter before Chrislip rambled into the end zone from 21 yards out for his third score of the game. Ethan Harrington took an interception to the end zone from 43 yards out late in the quarter, giving the Eagles enough points to call the game at halftime due to point rules.
Talking about some of his young players, coach Reghr noted, “Jaxon (Chrislip) had a good game playing quarterback in his first varsity game. Ethan (Harrington) had a phenomenal first game defensively. It was good to see a lot of young guys and first-time varsity players step up and perform well.”
Besides Chrislip, Camden Kruse ended up with 48 yards rushing and Kustom Schamp had two pass receptions for 31 yards.
The Eagles ended up racking up 242 yards in offense on just 21 plays, with 150 coming on 16 run plays.
Defensively, Canton/Galva held Centre to just four first downs and 77 yards in total offense on 31 plays, including just 17 yards on 15 carries rushing. Chrislip was also the team leader on defense with 3.5 tackles and both Kustom Schamp and Bransyn Speer had interceptions.
Concluding his reflections on the first game of the season, coach Reghr added, “We have some things to work on and little things to fix, but with practices and the next few weeks of games, hopefully we get things taken care of before we start our tough district games.”
The Eagles will play host to Central Christian on Friday, September 13.
