Muehler, Elder Earn Medals

GREAT BEND – On Thursday the McPherson high cross-country team went on the road for their 2023 season opener and ran at the Great Bend Invitational where both the boys and girls teams finished in the top-ten and a pair of Bullpup boys earned medals.
The highlight of the day came from the Bullpup varsity boys as the team finished ninth in the team standings and had two runners, Caleb Muehler and Ethan Elder earn medals. Muehler ran 17:05 to finish in the top-ten at ninth out of 116 runners while Elder ran a 17.28 to place twelfth.
The Lady Bullpup varsity finished tenth in the team standings while Lexi Patterson was the top individual runner, finishing twenty-second out of 94 competitors.
“We faced a lot of good competition from many larger schools today,” pointed out head coach Nikolaus Rempe in his post meet comments. “What we did do was competed well against them. Many of the runners improved their times compared to this same meet in 2022. We had a tough week of training but will continue working to improve our times throughout the season.”
Up next for the Bullpup harriers will be another big road test on Saturday, September 9 in Wamego at the Wamego Invitational.
