AREA SCHOOLS WIN 3 TEAM TITLES, 5 INDIVIDUAL GOLDS AT STATE TRACK/FIELD

Lady Teutons, Lady Vikings, Wildcats – State Champs!!!

WICHITA – It was a great couple of days for the six McPherson County area smaller schools as they gathered at Cessna Stadium for the State Track/Field meet and brought home three team state champions plus five individual state champions as well.

 

The six are smaller schools totaled up 269 team points as the Inman Lady Teutons won the Class 2A girls title with 56 points, the Lady Vikings of Smoky Valley won the Class 3A girls title with 51 points and the Moundridge Wildcat boys put up 55 points in winning the Class 2A boys’ title.

 

Besides winning the state boys title, the Lady Wildcats of Moundridge finished fourth behind Inman with 40 points.

 

Breanne Peters of Smoky Valley closed out her illustrious track/field career for the Lady Vikings by winning Class 3A state titles in the pole vault and triple jump while running and jumping to second place finishes in the 200 meters and long jump.

 

Other area state title winners were Havana Olander of Little River in the Class 1A girls triple jump, Cammi Unruh of Moundridge winning the long jump in Class 2A girls and Kaden Elmore getting a title in the 400 meters for Class 2A boys while leading Moundridge to the state title.

 

Overall, the six area smaller schools had 27 individuals score points in 26 events plus the teams scored points in 11 relays.

 

Here is a breakdown  of each school and how they did:

 

AREA SCHOOL GIRLS RESULTS at the 2024 Kansas State Track/Field Meets  >

 

CLASS 1A >

LITTLE RIVER  LADY REDSKINS >

Finished 7th with 26 team points.

 

As a team the Little River Lady Redskins finished seventh with Havana Olander scoring a state title in the triple jump and the 4x100 relay quartet of Alaina Eck, Kami Grasser, Ashley Stephenson and Saelyn Raleigh ran second.

 

100 Meter Hurdles > 7. Aubrey Olander – 16.70 – (2 pts).

4x100 Meter Relay > 2. Lady Redskins (Alaina Eck; Kami Grasser; Ashley Stephenson; Saelyn Raleigh) – 51.18 (8 pts).

4x400 Meter Relay > 4. Lady Redskins (Saelyn Raleigh; Kami Grasser; Alaina Eck; Ashley Stephenson) – 4:12.43 (5 pts).

Triple Jump > 1. Havana Olander – 37’ 10.5” (10 pts).

Pole Vault > 8. Kate Ellwood – 9’ 6” (1 pt).

 

ELYRIA CHRISTIAN LADY EAGLES  >

Finished 11th with 22 team points.

 

It was a one athlete scoring machine  for the Lady Eagles of Elyria Christian as Laney Reiff scored all 22 of the team points by running second in a pair of shorter distance runs and third in the 3,200 meters.

 

800 Meters > 2. Laney Reiff – 2:22.16 (8 pts).

1,600 Meters > 2. Laney Reiff  – 5:21.50 (8 pts).

3,200 Meters > 3. Laney Reiff – 11:47.14 (6 pts).

 

CANTON/GALVA LADY EAGLES >

 

The Canton/Galva Lady Eagles had no qualifiers for the 2024 state meet.

 

CLASS 2A >

 

INMAN LADY TEUTONS >

Finished 1st with 56 team points.

 

How do you win a state team title without winning a single event? Do what the Lady Teutons did, they scored team points with two individuals in five events, both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, the triple jump, discus and shot put. Those events accounted for 39 of the teams 56 points.

 

Madilyn Heflin scored in two individual events and both relays while Chloe Schmidt closed out her Lady Teuton career by scoring points in both the discus and shot put.

 

800 Meters > 6. Madelyn Brunk – 2:23.67 (3 pts).

100 Meter Hurdles > 3. Madilyn Heflin – 16.10 (6 pts).

100 Meter Hurdles > 4. Brooklyn Black – 16.13 (5 pts).

300 Meter Hurdles > 2. Brooklyn Black – 46.12 (8 pts).

300 Meter Hurdles > 4. Madilyn Heflin – 46.70 (5 pts).

Long Jump > 7. Katie Nichols – 15’ 5” (2 pts).

Triple Jump > 7. Suttyn Harris – 33’ 9.75” (2 pts).

Discus > 6. Chloe Schmidt – 121’ 3” (3 pts).

MOUNDRIDGE LADY WILDCATS >

Finished 4th with 40 team points.

 

Cammi Unruh accounted for 24 of the teams 40 points by her win in the long jump and running second in the 100 meters and third in the 200.

 

Haylee Jantz scored points by medaling in both the distanced runs as well.

1,600 Meters > 6. Haylee Jantz  – 5:37.18 (3 pts).

CLASS 3A >

 

SMOKY VALLEY LADY VIKINGS >

Finished 1st with 51 team points.

 

Breanne Peters closed out her illustrious Lady Viking career with a pair of individual wins and a pair of second place finishes. Trista Spitler finished fourth in the triple jump and Esther Clark scored team points in both the long distance runs.

 

200 Meters > 2. Breanne Peters  – 25.77 (8 pts).

1,600 Meters > 7. Esther Clark  – 5:35.45 (2 pts).

3,200 Meters > 7. Esther Clark  – 11:57.84 (2 pts).

LITTLE RIVER REDSKINS >

Finished T-17 with 11 team points.

 

Andrew Smith closed out his Little River career by scoring eight of the teams’ 11 points.

 

100 Meters > 7. Andrew Smith – 11.31 (2 pts).

400 Meters > 3. Andrew Smith – 51.06 (6 pts).

4x100 Meter Relay > 7. Redskins (Logan Schubert; Jhet Ewertt; Kal-El Robinson; Christopher Norez) – 45.31 (2 pts).

High Jump > 8. Tristan Bristow – 6’ 0” (1 pt).

 

 

 

CANTON/GALVA EAGLES >

Finished T-45 with 3 team points.

 

Senior Lame McMannis slipped a bit from previous meets but kept the Eagles from being shut out and closed out his track/field career by making the medal stand in the 300-meter hurdles.

 

300 Meter Hurdles > 6. Lane McMannis – 42.20 (3 pts).

 

ELYRIA CHRISTIAN EAGLES >

Blake Robertson participated in both the discus and shot put but was unable to finish among the top eight in either as he closed out his Eagle track/field career. .

 

CLASS 2A >

 

MOUNDRDIGE WILDCATS >

Finished 1st with 55 team points.

 

Kaden Elmore won the 400 meters and finished second in the 200 while scoring 23 individual points to help lead the Wildcats to the state title.

 

Heath Churchill pitched in with 13 points in finishing in the top six of three events and the Kanitz brothers, Kaizer and Kreighton, scored seven points in the triple jump.

200 Meters > 2. Kaden Elmore – 22.81 (8 pts).

400 Meters > 1. Kaden Elmore – 50.27 (10 pts).

110 Meter Hurdles > 6. Heath Churchill – 16.33 (3 pts).

4x400 Meter Relay > 5. Wildcats (Fynn Burge; Kaizer Kanitz; Heath Churchill; Kaden Elmore) – 3:32.61 (4 pts).

High Jump > 3. Heath Churchill – 6’ 6” (6 pts).

Triple Jump > 4. Kaizer Kanitz – 43’ 4.5” (5 pts).

Finished T-42 with 1 team point.

 

It was a rough weekend for the Teutons as they sneaked into eighth in the 4x800 meter relay to get the lone points of the weekend.

 

4x800 Meter Relay > 8. Teutons (Riley Roots; Gage Sisson; Cooper Wiens; Tyler Martisko) – 8:34.67 (1 pt).

 

 

CLASS 3A >

 

SMOKY VALLEY VIKINGS >

Finished T-28 with 4 team points.

 

Thanks to a pair of relay medals the Vikings were not shut out at the state meet.

 

4x400 Meter Relay > 6. Vikings (Brayden Eyer; Samuel Peterson; Kaden Bishop; Ki Blanchat) – 3:31.97 (3 pts).
